Health Initiative (HINT)
As we reflect on the purpose of a health initiative, we may consider the fact that an estimated 1.9 million deaths globally were attributable to high-sodium diets in 2021, thereby making the
excessive consumption of salt-rich foods the most impactful dietary risk. 10.6% of all deaths in 2021 were associated with poor diet, with cardiovascular disease as the leading cause of death associated with diet.
In her research, Helen Argyrou asserts that women often burn out or suffer chronic illness on their path to career success. This reality as well as rising cancer, anxiety, substance use, as well as the chronic illnesses of autoimmune disease with infertility all impress upon us the need to revisit and update health options with the aim to integrate health education that can help women to develop their awareness of sustainable health solutions.

HINT proposes a hybrid curriculum in peace education with customized seminars delivered via technology-mediated instruction and on the island of Cyprus. The curriculum, to be curated by LEAD IMPACT instructors led by Dr. Colette Mazzucelli, shall be housed initially on the Institute’s website. An introductory module, designed by Dr. Grichting, consists of three (3) short videos as well as a written exercise and a field project created by the candidate.
Field work may be conducted by a candidate with the approval of LEAD IMPACT and a partner institution selected in consultation with the candidate. Curricular innovations allow candidates to select a range of seminar options. Cohort sizes are small to facilitate solidarity within an interdisciplinary community. In addition to core courses, electives, and a research concentration, each candidate defines a research project supervised by a senior faculty member.
