The Intechgrative Learning concept was coined by Colette Mazzucelli in autumn 2023 after a dinner hosted by Counselor Kristie Patten in her Manhattan home on October 16 to celebrate the inauguration of NYU’s 17th President, Dr. Linda Mills. After more than thirty (30) years of cooperation across the academic, communications, diplomatic, non-profit, and union sectors, Colette was inspired as a wordsmith to reflect on an alternative to “remote” in her experiences of technology-mediated learning, research, and service across continents.

The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI), coupled with fascinating thesis advisement conversations with NYU SPS MSGA researcher Thomas Morin, lead Colette to nurture relationships established in specific local contexts. The subsequent interactions advance initiatives that buttress environmental stewardship, gender empowerment, and humanitarian development. Multicultural communities that result from such efforts are evolving as what Keck and Sikkink analyze as transnational advocacy networks, (TANs), on a global scale.
Transnational Advocacy Networks in Intechgrative Learning
The role technology plays in these initiatives is central, yet supportive, of primary focused human endeavors, which sustain a commitment to an emerging citizenship. The allegiance of this citizenship is planetary given the challenges the earth’s 8 billion peoples face, individually and collectively, during the early decades of the 21st century. During weekly conversations with Pioneer Academics high-school age students in Nicaragua and California, who are engaged in the Plate and Planet Global Problem Solving Institute (GPSI) to address challenges of food insecurity and climate inaction, Colette is honing Intechgrative Learning, as she collaborates with ENGAGE XR colleagues, Jason Schmidt and Gus Sosebee in the Metaverse.
An initial panel discussion with Megan Araghi, Ben Rossman, and Katerra Billy, moderated by Colette and hosted by Jason for an intimate audience of twenty (20) in the Metaverse on November 18, allows further elaboration of Intechgrative Learning in LEAD IMPACT’s vocabulary to buttress its evolving Democracy and Resource Dependency Initiative.
