Sustainable Energy Initiative
Indonesia is continuously modernizing itself for its people and the world. This modernization process includes the country’s economy, infrastructure, education, food security, clean water, healthcare, and reduction of inequalities, to name a few concerns. In 2022, Indonesia reached 100% access to electricity for its citizens. Of further interest is in-depth information including affordability, reliability, sustainability, and modern energy practices. In March 2022, the Diesel Replacement Program (DRP), was initiated by the state electricity company, PT PLN (Persero) to eliminate the heavy dependence on fossil fuels in Indonesia.
Renewable Energy Alternatives
Renewable energy, such as Solar, has a high success rate of being a permanent method of energy supply in Indonesia due to its location near the equator line. Small-scale solar projects would be key to this success. Sunrise and sunset are both consistent year-round in this region, thereby making alternatives to fossil fuels much more competitive.
The downfall with solar energy, like many other alternatives to fossil fuels, is the cost. However, by rallying proper information and displaying the greater good of alternative energy to fossil fuels, Indonesia could be one of the few countries to set an example of a stabilized, well-versed energy grid.
Energy has always been a sensitive subject within Indonesia and finding the proper balance and respect is crucial to the success of healthy competition. International entities, governments, and investors should be well-introduced to the proper cultural tactics when trying to engage with Indonesia and its energy/mining market. Critical mineral deposits and reserves are continuously being discovered throughout the various areas of Indonesia that are wanted and needed for the progression of modern technology and energy around the world.
Currently, Indonesia has openly agreed to participate in the Critical Minerals Summit 2024, taking place in Bali, Indonesia, September 4th-6th. This Summit is an opportunity for investors, companies, and interested parties to participate in understanding the current stance of Indonesia’s energy and minerals as well as how the country is positioning itself for the future.
