The Brain Mechanic

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) has the incredible power to change the way we think, perceive, and react to stress—for the better. And as an alternative method to mood-enhancing drugs, CBT has only become more popular. But until recently, access to CBT was only available through professional therapy. Now with The Brain Mechanic, Spencer Lord delivers a concise, humorous, and easy-to-use handbook that demystifies cognitive behavioral therapy for the lay user.

About The Author

Spencer worked for Frank Casey in the Warner Bros. publicity office while attending the University of Chicago. He left University to travel throughout Asia—teaching ESL and working for Mother Teresa in Calcutta, India.

He was a full-time comedy writer and filmmaker when his mother, a clinical psychotherapist, sparked his interest in cognitive psychology, which led to the publication of his hit book ‘The Brain Mechanic’ by Chicken Soup for the Soul’ publisher HCI Books, Inc. In 2021, Spencer formed Brain Mechanic Films LLC to produce a movie of the book, and in 2022 he moved the Brain Mechanic Workshop to the Hollywood Hills.
