Leslie Prosy

A recent New York University Master’s graduate in International Relations, EU Law and Internal Law and Certified Monitor and Evaluation Specialist from the International Labor Orgainzation has participated in numerous international research projects. Her research focuses on EU Law, International Law, European History, and Global Migration. Her thesis, “The European Migration Regime In A World of Chessboard Politics,” delved deep into the history and ideas of European unity since the end of World War II and looked more specifically into refugees as a case analysis between the 2015 Refugee Crisis and proceeding Covid Pandemic.

Another international collaborative piece, “Analyzing Asylum Systems for Unaccompanied Minors: A Comparative Study between Germany, the United States, and Mexico,” a research project that looked at immigration law, governance, and policy to examine how to better the global management of migration. In international collaboration with her colleagues (Germany, USA, and Mexico), they reviewed national, supranational, and international policies between the EU, the USA, and Mexico. The purpose was to study immigration law for unaccompanied minors who requested asylum. Using a case analysis between the European Union (the 2015 EU Refugee Crisis) and North America, she and her colleagues concluded how to improve the asylum process for unaccompanied minors in the US and Mexico and shared the findings with the Mexican Consulate in New York City. She has researched democratic backsliding within the European Union and comparative political analysis between EU countries. Contributed to two books, “The Ethics of Personal Data Collection in International Relations; Inclusionism in the time of Covid-19” and “Personal Data Collection Risks in a Post-Vaccine World.” 

During the 2015 Refugee Crisis, Leslie’s fieldwork as an Asylum manager in Germany focused on leading an international group of seven and developed social cohesion strategies to aid unaccompanied minors with asylum and integration needs through close cooperation with municipal, state, governmental, non-governmental, and international organizations. Some of Leslie’s latest contributions to the international community are for CoronaNet as Germany’s Country Manager. CoronaNet initiated in 2020 through PERISCOPE and the European Commission compiles a database of government responses to the coronavirus. She and 1000+ researchers globally collect data for 18 broad policy categories. This dataset provides the most comprehensive and granular documental of such government policies in the world.
