Christina Schmidlin

Producer/Creative Director Christina Schmidlin holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Zuerich, Switzerland and a graduate degree from Columbia University, New York
She combines a varied background  stretching from investment banking to film finance and production with Swiss Television, Heritage Entertainment, Columbia Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox to name a few. At One World Productions, she joined forces as a partner and co-produced the feature film “Loon” (starring Robin Wright and Jason Patrick) and negotiated the U.S. distribution deal for Cannes Grand Prix Winner “Yeelen.” She was an associate producer on the feature film “Five Heartbeats” by Robert Townsend and served as the creative and production consultant on the Oscar-nominated short “Cadillac Dreams” before joining Full Circle Films to oversee all commercial and feature film production.

Subsequently she joined XAOS – a computer design, animation company based in San Francisco. As Executive Producer for XAOS she produced digital effects for numerous Hollywood Features such as Lawnmowerman, Pagemaster, Spawn, Practical Magic, Jumanji as well as the company’s broadcast projects such as the MSNBC launch and the MTV “Liquid TV” campaign both of which won an Emmy award. XAOS also produced the music video “Infrared Roses” for the Greatful Dead. She also spearheaded the company’s involvement in the 70 mm market and produced over a dozen IMAX films (see filmography). In 2000 she produced/co-wrote/directed for Volkswagen the award winning ride film “Wege zur Qualitaet” (highlighted at the Prix Ars Electronica in Austria)
In 2000 she co-founded Hellikon and continued to dedicate herself as producer and creative director to the innovative integration of live action with computer animation for all formats with emphasis on 70mm and immersive 3D displays for specialty venues. In 2007 she served as senior effects producer on
National Geographic’s Seamonsters 3D, a stereoscopic 3D IMAX film, which won a Visual Effects Award in the Special Venue Category. In 2007 she also worked with Tippett Studio (“Jurassic
Park”, “Robocop”, “Starship Troopers”, “Cats and Dogs”) as Head of Development to set up a subsidiary for Tippett in Montreal for their visual effects production and worked on the “New Line” Feature Film Golden Compass, which won an Oscar award in 2008 for best visual effects. 

At Hellikon Christina Schmidlin continues to work as an Illustrator, producer, writer and director on various film and video projects. Some of her clients include state and federal agencies, as well as
foundations. While at Hellikon she worked with various book publishers in terms of animating children books content. For Rainbowfish by Marcus Pfister she created a stereoscopic (3D) adaptation of the original rainbowfish illustration and developed a film script.

In 2013 her art installation “Walking Backwards” was voted amongst the top 20 installations out of 1600 by the New York curator of the prestigious Art Prize competition. In 2014 she set up a video museum installation for the Tulelake Japanese American Internment camps traveling exhibit funded by the US government.
