Elena Sandovici is a full-time artist and writer living in Houston, Texas. She works primarily in watercolor on paper and acrylic on wood. The natural world, and especially the sea and its many creatures, are primary sources of inspiration in her work. Her connection with ocean life and her passion for making a
difference in protecting it has been strengthened through frequent trips to Galveston Island, where the wild dunes occasionally provide a nesting place for endangered sea turtles, while also being the habitat of rattle snakes and coyotes, and a place where herons, egrets, and many other coastal birds find sustenance. The more one pays attention to the natural world, the more one notices and appreciates biodiversity. Sandovici’s art journey is nourished by the process of noticing things and finding colorful ways to invite viewers to see them as well.

Sandovici is a 2018 graduate of John Ross Palmer’s Escapist Mentorship Program and has shown work in many individual and group exhibits nationally and internationally. Her work is on permanent display at the Tremont House Hotel in Galveston, as well as part of the collection of Memorial Hermann Children’s
Hospital in Houston in addition to many collections in private homes. In addition to painting, Sandovici writes fiction, primarily historical novels set on Galveston Island, all of which include her observations and appreciation of the natural beauty that lends this coastal community its magic.
