Maria Paula Mayor

Maria Paula Mayor, originally from Colombia, graduated from the international relations program at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia, with an emphasis on security and defense. She is currently a graduate candidate at New York University’s (NYU) Center of Global Affairs, with a concentration in Human Rights and International Law.

Maria possesses expertise in conflict analysis, human rights, and territorial disputes. She has dedicated much of her work to comprehending intricate socio-political situations, particularly in Latin America, utilizing innovative tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Maria Paula is currently conducting research on the intersection of armed conflicts, human rights, and geospatial analysis, with a specific focus on the Colombian armed conflict. Her work explores how traditional conflict theories often overlook the localized and anthropological dimensions of violence, and how geographic information systems (GIS) can provide deeper insights into territorial control, displacement, and the impact on affected communities.
