Rukhsar Azamee

Rukhsar is a human rights activist from Afghanistan, where she studied law. She has been working on projects focused on addressing social injustice and promoting women’s rights and democratic values in Afghanistan. She established a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving women’s situation in the country by advocating for their receipt of university scholarships and creating a mental health advice hotline authorized by the Ministry of Health.

Rukhsar is a Master’s student at New York University (NYU), where she studies Global Affairs. At NYU, she serves as the Student Council Representative at the Student Association for Global Affairs (SAGA) Executive Board. She also worked as a Communications and Research Intern with Parliamentarians for Global Action. Prior to her graduate studies, Rukhsar worked for many years as a journalist in Afghanistan, including as the news correspondent for the Voice of America. Rukhsar is working as a media officer at the American Branch of the International Law Association.
